According to State Statue, no building or structure regulated by the state building code shall be erected, constructed, enlarged, altered, repaired, moved, improved, removed, converted or demolished unless a separate permit for each building or structure has first been obtained from the building official.
Building permit applications are available here or at City Hall. If you have questions on whether or not your project will require a permit please call the Building Inspector at 507.330.5034 or City Hall at 507.243.3011. Any work started without the proper permit will be subject to double fees. The purpose of building permits is to monitor work is completed properly and according to State Code and also for your safety and protection.
New Construction
New Construction and any work in a commercial building require more information before permits can be issued.
General Building Permits
Mechanical installations, re-siding, re-roofing, plumbing work, replacing windows, and similar projects require less information and can usually be issued with one stop at City Hall.
Zoning Permits are required for lakeshore alterations, replacing sidewalks, driveways, sheds (under 12 X 12), landscaping, signs, fencing, etc. Please contact the Clerk's office for additional information.
